ANXIETY MEDICATION MANAGEMENT IN WASHINGTON STATE

If you’ve been looking for ways to better manage anxiety, you might be wondering whether medication could help. Medication for anxiety disorders helps some people, but it’s natural to have questions before deciding whether it’s the right choice for your symptoms and life.

On this page, we explore what anxiety medication management involves, how it works, and how Insight Mental Health Group can support you through the process.

What Is Anxiety Medication Management?

For some people, medication can be an important part of managing anxiety. Medication management for anxiety disorders involves working with a licensed healthcare professional who can prescribe, monitor, and adjust medication to help you manage your anxiety symptoms.

Some of the common types of medication used for the treatment of anxiety include:1

  • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

  • Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs)

  • Buspirone

  • Benzodiazepines

  • Beta-blockers

Medication management means you don’t have to work out the right treatment for your needs on your own. Your provider can help you find a medication and dose that works well for you. Through regular check-ins, your doctor or nurse can see how you’re responding and adjust the medication or dosage as needed.

As with all medications, anti-anxiety medicines may come with side effects. Managing side effects can sometimes be more complicated if you take several medications, as some medicines can interact with each other. However, regular check-ins give you the chance to talk about any side effects or interactions you’re experiencing, so they can be addressed early. This might mean making changes to your anxiety medication treatment plan, such as adjusting dosages or trying different medications.

It’s all about keeping you safe and comfortable.

How Does Medication Management for Anxiety Work?

Medication management for anxiety and depression typically involves the following steps:

  1. Initial conversation: You meet with a licensed healthcare provider, such as a doctor or psychiatrist, to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and any daily challenges you’re experiencing. This helps your healthcare professional understand whether anxiety medication may be appropriate for you and, if so, which options might best suit your needs. Together, you can create your treatment plan for anxiety.

  2. Insurance verification: Your insurance plan is checked to see whether it covers the suggested medication.

  3. Finding the right dosage: In anxiety medication management, you often start with a low dose that is gradually adjusted depending on how you respond to it.

  4. Routine monitoring: Regular check-ins and anxiety medication monitoring help your provider see how well your treatment is working for you. These check-ins are also a chance to talk about any changes you’ve noticed in your anxiety or whether any side effects have arisen, and to adjust doses or try alternative medicines if needed.

  5. Long-term plan: Your needs may change over time. Regular appointments give you the chance to review your progress and make changes to your treatment as needed.
